Course Summary

You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector by studying the mandatory core and core pathways, including:

  • Sustainability
  • Biosecurity
  • Working in the agriculture, environmental and animal care sectors
  • Ethics
  • Supply chain
  • Business (related to these sectors)
  • Equality
  • Communication
  • Finance
  • Health and Safety

In addition to the core content, you will look at the following topics with the Ornamental horticulture and environmental landscaping:

  • Establish ornamental and environmental horticultural areas
  • Maintain ornamental and environmental horticultural areas
  • Install landscape features
  • Manage existing designed landscapes
  • The skills of handling and operating the tools of the landscaping trades


Course Details

During the 2-year programme, you will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of environmental roles.

The course is broken up into three components, a mandatory core component called 'Agriculture, environmental and animal care,' then a core pathway of 'Crop, woodland and horticulture,' and finally an occupational specialism in 'Ornamental and environmental horticulture and landscaping'.


Entry requirements

A grade 5 in English Language, grade 4 in Maths and grades 5/4 in Science are required.
