Course Summary
Our new alternative academic qualification in applied science forms part of our A-Level programme and will allow you to learn the principles and applications of biology, chemistry and physics.
On our A-Level programme, you will study three or four subjects. Please apply for three or four subjects and use our course selector here to check what options you can do!
Course Details
This qualification has been developed by Pearson in consultation with universities and sector experts to ensure that you'll gain the knowledge and skills required to progress into higher education. Throughout the subject, you'll learn fundamental scientific principles, critical thinking and laboratory techniques across the specifically designed units.
What will I study in this subject?
Over the two years, you will study the following mandatory units:
Principles and applications of biology; structure and function of cells and tissues, biological molecules, enzymes and their role in organisms
Principles and applications of chemistry; structure of the periodic table and it's implications on physical and chemical properties of substances
Principles and applications of physics; waves and their applications, force principles and their application in transportation and construction of electrical circuits
You will also study one of the following units (to be confirmed):
- Scientific investigation skills
- Contemporary issues in science
How will it be delivered and assessed?
This subject is assessed with a combination of externally set exams (three) and a synoptic assessment.
How many UCAS points can I achieve from this subject?
Our alternative academic qualifications which form part of our A-Level programme qualify for UCAS tariff points to apply for university in the same way as A-Levels. For this subject, you could achieve up to 56 UCAS points (the UCAS tariff points from your other subjects will be added to this, too!) depending on how you are graded:
