Course Summary

If you are interested in working as a junior chef or in a service role within the hospitality industry, this course is for you.

Course Details

Qualified skilled staff are more likely to gain employment and this qualification represents an introduction to the industry. It is a busy and practical course with real working experience in the restaurant and kitchens.

Whilst working towards this certificate you will be able to develop skills in many areas including:

  • How to prepare and cook basic dishes
  • Food safety
  • Food and drink service
  • Customer service skills
  • Legislation
  • How to work in a team (essential in any busy kitchen)

Entry requirements

Whilst there are no general grade entry requirements for our level 1 programmes, you will be expected to show:

  • A good attitude towards learning and a willingness to progress, including in English and maths (if applicable)
  • A keen interest in the subject and a commitment to working hard

You will be invited to an information session and applicant experience day (if you have been offered a place before May) before you start your course to help ensure this is the best course for you.
