3 A Level Programme
Minimum of 66444 at GCSE (Please note : grade 4 may be replaced by an 'old C' grade and grade 6 by 'old' B grade)
Vocational subjects cannot replace GCSEs for entry on to an A Level programme.
You must also study English/Maths GCSE if you have not already achieved grade 4 in these subjects.
4 A level programme
If you achieve a minimum of 3 GCSE's at grade 8 (A*) plus 5 at grade 7 (A) and your English Language and Maths are at minimum grade 4, you will have the option to join the A Plus programme.
Please note that A Plus is designed for applicants to academic courses at Oxford, Cambridge or other Russel Group universities. Grades in vocational subjects cannot replace GCSE's for entry to this programme.
Vocational programmes
Minimum of five grade 4 at GCSE (or old grade C) or Merit/Distinction in a relevant BTEC First Diploma (or equivalent) plus 1 grade 4 (or old grade 4) at GCSE. You must also study English Language and/or Maths GCSE if you have not already achieved grade 4 in these subjects.
Level 2 programme
Minimum of three grade 4 at GCSE (or old Grade C).
This programme is designed for those students who just miss our entry requirements for level 3 study. It includes an opportunity to improve your GCSE English Language and Maths grades, alongside a Workskills course to develop the skills required for progression into employment or onto a level 3 programme.
Course Summary
THIS COURSE IS IDEAL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF CREATIVE MEDIA PRODUCTION AND LEARN HOW TO WORK WITHIN THE MEDIA INDUSTRIES. IT IS ALSO SUITABLE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO STUDY MEDIA RELATED DEGREE COURSES.
OVER THE TWO YEAR COURSE, YOU WILL DEVELOP KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NEEDED FOR A FUTURE CAREER IN THE MEDIA SECTOR. YOU WILL INVESTIGATE THE MEDIA INDUSTRY BY LOOKING AT THE INFLUENCES OF TECHNOLOGY, AUDIENCES AND HOW MEDIA IS AFFECTED BY THESE FACTORS.
YOU WILL DEVELOP RESEARCH SKILLS, STUDY HOW TO ANALYSE AND DECONSTRUCT MEDIA REPRESENTATIONS AND DEVELOP THE COMMUNICATION AND PLANNING SKILLS THAT ALLOW IDEAS TO BE PRODUCED.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN?
In year 1, you will study:
• Pre-production techniques, such as storyboarding and scriptwriting
• Video editing
• Print-based media
• Photography
• How to respond to a professional commissioned brief
• Research methods that develop your writing and analytical skills.
• Critical analysis of film and television
• How to communicate your ideas effectively through professional pitches
In year 2 you will study:
• Documentary filmmaking
•Concept art for computer games
• Advertising production
• How to extend and refine your existing practical skills

You will have the opportunity to work with local companies and organisations on a range of projects, producing work for them to a high professional standard to meet their brief.
Recent organisations who we have collaborated with include BBC Voices, The Benjamin Foundation and St Mary’s Works in Norwich.

THIS COURSE GOES WELL WITH…
This is a full time course that is equivalent to three A Levels and is ideal for those who want to focus on studying Creative Media Production with a view to pursuing a career in the industry.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
You will be assessed through a variety of practical and theoretical tasks linked to careers in the creative industries. Successful completion of the first year will allow you to progress on to the second year to achieve the full extended diploma qualification.
Entry requirements
Minimum of 5 grade 4s at GCSE or Merit/Distinction in a relevant BTEC First Diploma (or equivalent) plus 1 grade 4 at GCSE.
You must also study English Language and/or Maths GCSE if you have not already achieved grade 4 in these subjects.
Additional entry requirements for this course: English Language new grade 4 (or old grade C) and either Media or Graphics GCSE Grade 4 or Merit/ Distinction in a BTEC First Diploma in Media (can replace 4 GCSEs)

YOU CAN GO ON TO DO...
Media production at university, further training and/or employment in the creative industries. The full two year course is equivalent to three A Levels and will allow you to progress on to study. You will also have the opportunity to join our own innovative Media Learning Company at City College Norwich. Former students have progressed on to work for companies such as X-Box Live and have even worked on the set of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
