Deferring entry into higher education (HE) to take a gap year is an option, but one which needs to be considered seriously.
It can be really useful to have some money behind you when you start university; a positive bank balance can make a lot of difference to your HE experience.
Alternatively, you may want to take the opportunity to travel, learn a new language or simply gain some independence. You may also acquire some skills and experiences that will help in later life.
…remember it isn't a soft option. Gap years demand as much, if not more, thought as any other option. You still have to make a positive decision what you want to do, write applications for different gap year opportunities, and even raise money for your chosen option!
Also remember that you still need to apply for your HE course by the usual application deadlines, as if you weren't taking a year out. You must also check with your chosen university or college that they accept deferred entry applications.
