05. Which Qualification?

Confused by all the qualifications and course titles?

Look at the pages in this section for a summary of the courses and qualifications at sixth forms and colleges and information on where they might lead.

The choice of qualifications after Year 11 is huge. You need to think about three things:

  1. What type of qualification fits your career plan?
    1. Look at the information on the pages linked to below.
    2. Visit the National Careers Service job profiles database and check the entry routes for careers you are interested in
  2. How do you learn best?
    1. Check which course fits in with your preferred learning style
  3. Which Level is best for you?
    1. Level 1 - exam results aren't as important but you'll need a real interest in this course
    2. Level 2 - you usually need GCSEs and a genuine interest in the course you are applying for
    3. Level 3 - usually ask for at least 4-5 GCSEs at grade C or above
