Go Elelphants!

Summer 2008 saw Norwich's streets come alive with a vivid parade of creatively decorated elephants - with Aimhigher's Aimee, Mimosa, Star and Hundertbow taking part.

What, who, where?

Aimhigher is a national program aiming to widen participation in Higher Education by raising awareness, aspiration and attainment of young people from under-represented groups. It does this by offering a wide range of activities and events to your school such as Taster Days, Master Classes, student shadowing, workshops and talks organised with your Area Aimhigher Officer and HEI’s including UEA, Easton College, Gt. Yarmouth College, College of West Anglia, West Suffolk College, Norwich School of Art & Design and City College Norwich.

Aimhigher Targeted Audiences are

Young people aged 13 – 19, their parents and family members from under–represented groups which include

  • Young people from neighbourhoods with lower than average HE participation
  • People from lower socio-economic groups
  • Those living in deprived geographical areas, (inc. rural and coastal)
  • People whose family have no previous experience of HE
  • Young people in care
  • Minority ethnic or sub-groups that are under-represented in HE
  • People with disabilities.

And who are:

  • 13 – 16 and have achieved or the potential of gaining level 5 at KS3
  • 13 – 19 and have or are able to achieve a minimum of 5 Cs at GCSE or equivalent
  • 16 – 19s capable of achieving two or more passes at A level.

Subjects…

Can range from The Sciences, Philosophy, Creative Writing, Sports, History, Music, Languages, Business and Enterprise, Creative and Performing Arts or a subject provided by a college or university that compliments the schools curriculum. Bids for funding for specific projects will also be considered by Aimhigher within the above criteria.

Where?

At your school or on campus, in a college or a space suitable for the activity, event or visit.
